Discord message deletion: some things shouldn't last forever

You may have seen that, in the last few days, a new Discord bot for the society has been released. Along with the new bot, a message retention policy is being introduced.

We want people to feel comfortable being their authentic selves in our spaces, and more than anything we want people to feel safe. Given the nature of our community, some channels are more likely than others to have sensitive topics being introduced, that people might not want to be kept on the permanent record.

Retention rules will apply to the below channels, with the below timescales for deletion:

Channel Retention time
#?emotional-support-and-venting
1 week
#āš§gender-chat
1 month
#?sexuality-chat
#?current-affairs
Until the next September
#?nsfw-discussion

This means that e.g. a message posted in #?emotional-support-and-venting will stay around for seven days, before being removed from the server.

Pinned messages in all of the channels will never be deleted, so if you've got some important resources you'd like to share with people, just tag a committee member and ask them to pin your message.

If you have any questions about these changes, please do ask a committee member. As always, we'd love to hear your feedback!
